LOS ANGELES — During the devastating wildfires that swept through the Los Angeles area, we have seen an outpouring of support in the area. Fortunately, both the Palisades and Eaton fires are 100% contained, and relief efforts continue.

As a member of the American Legion since joining in the Army National Guard at Basic Training in 2001, I have to say I am very proud of my fellow Legionnaires of my post, Hollywood American Legion Post 43, for helping out for the affected areas. I’m also proud of veterans continuing to serve in their communities in organizations varying from Post 283 of Pacific Palisades to East Pasadena Post 280, who were in the areas affected by the two worst wildfires.

The American Legion members and the organization’s auxiliary mobilized to collect supplies in the theater at Post 43 in Hollywood. They used the post’s kitchen to cook food for those who needed it.

There’s a “Star Trek” connection with American Legion Hollywood Post 43’s Art Deco Bar, which served as the Riverside, Iowa bar where James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) gets into a fight with Starfleet cadets in the 2009 “Star Trek” movie.

This video is of the 2009 “Star Trek” bar fight scene that was filmed at American Legion Post 43 Hollywood, California, in its Art Deco Bar. Chris Pines plays James T. Kirk.
