Updated news on L.A. County fires, ways to help
UPDATED ON JAN. 17 — This week, the USS Angeles set a Red Alert because of the active fires in Los Angeles County. We recommend you download the Watch Duty app to keep up with the latest information on the current fires. Also check out Cal-Fire for up-to-date information.
Here are links for help and support during the fires:
- American Red Cross
- FEMA
- Direct Relief (The Goleta-based nonprofit, which has been promoted by the USS Angeles in the past, is working in a variety of ways to help those affected by the fires. Those ways include support for evacuees, emergency medical aid and distribution of free N95 masks.)
- Will Rogers State Historic Park in Pacific Palisades. (There’s a “Star Trek” connection. The park served as the site where the Klingon bird-of-prey nicknamed the “HMS Bounty,” flown by Admiral James T. Kirk and friends in “Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home,” landed. Pacific Palisades appeared in the scene set in San Francisco.)
