The Trek to Vegas!

By Fleet Capt. Dave Mason

Commanding Officer, USS Angeles

LAS VEGAS — The USS Angeles celebrated “Star Trek” by journeying in August to Creation’ Entertainment’s 55-Year Mission convention.

There, at the Rio Casino & All-Suites Hotel, we saw an amazingly energetic William Shatner (going strong at 91), Walter Koenig reflecting on his career as Chekov and Bester, and George Takei reflecting on his time as Sulu. We saw the stars of “Deep Space Nine,” “Voyager,” “Enterprise” and “The Next Generation.” And we learned that real estate is a second profession for some stars (such as Nicole de Boer, aka Enzri Dax, of “Deep Space Nine,” and Robin Curtis, aka Saavik. of “The Search for Spock” and “The Voyage Home.”)

We encountered fans in kind of costumes, and we saw bingo replace Karaoke because of COVID-19 concerns.
