Surprises haunt USS Angeles Halloween Party
By Commodore Dave Mason
VENTURA — Jenny Taylor and Paul Szymborski took no chances in a household full of skeletons, spirits and blood.
They wore their lucky red shirts!
Unlike the traditional “Star Trek” red uniforms, their T-shirts protected them when they hosted the USS Angeles Halloween Party Oct. 19 in Ventura.
As usual, they did a great job with their decorations, right down to something that surprised me.
A skeleton labeled “Ensign Dave Mason” sat on their patio.
He was in an original “Star Trek” series uniform. I met my “other self” when I was dressed in a uniform from the “Next Generation” era. Apparently the other version of me traveled from the future!
Also dressed in a “Trek” uniform, Christopher Mulrooney arrived with a story about his future and current selves. More about that, with photographic proof to back up Christopher’s timeless story, will appear next week on this website.
The “Star Trek” theme continued with Lisa Sobien in her red uniform from the “Next Generation” period.
Kristine Cherry came as one of the characters from her fictional stories.
And Dennis Cherry appeared to be under arrest. Well, actually, he wore a sign on his head with the musical notation for a rest or break from a melody.
“I’m under a rest,” said Dennis, the king of puns, with a smile.
We had fun at the party, where we won prizes in games and a costume contest, complete with skeleton statues. Contests included guessing the number of candy in a glass jar. Dennis won that one.
More about the party will appear in the December issue of Angels Flight, the newsletter emailed to Angeles members. To become one, click here.
